1/19/9 OUR LAST DAY IN THE STUDIO :(
GOODNIGHT, HANGER STUDIO…
Goodnight ramps
Goodnight amps
Goodnight group of microphone stands.
Goodnight pedals
and tangled cords…
Goodnight speakers…
and mixing boards.
Goodnight beers
Goodnight fears
Goodnight fits of joyful cheers.
Goodnight drones in good headphones
Goodnight risers…
and synthesizers.
Goodnight switches
Goodnight kitchen
Goodnight late nights of unproductive bitching.
Goodnight stairs
Goodnight snares
Goodnight studios everywhere…

Seems like you’re all having a great time recording, hope we won’t have to wait too long to hear all of it.

such a cute post! im sad to know that you are leaving today but i hope you had a wonderful stay in Sacramento. You made my week the most wonderful by showing me that dreams do come true. Also i take back saying if i was 20+ i would be creep for obsessing over you guys, because when i am 20 i still will be. I hope you have a safe trip to New York and having fun being an amazing Astrophysicist. see you soon!
Goodbye Heather!
P.S. Your blog is my home page!

Thanks for the insight into your head Heather. This hikes up my anticipation levels for the new album even more… Man what I wouldn’t do to get my hands on those SC Prophets for a little while (and was that an ARP 2600 behind Ericka where she is cheering joyously?) Not that I’d know what to do with them really, but I could just sit for hours making useless noises to my heart’s content. I’m such a pointless gearhead…Hurry up with that album!

I really enjoyed reading about your evolving transition from keyboard club hobbyist and student of astronomy to synth band musician and intern. It is such a great story of the lost (and maybe disillusioned?)American university graduate gone so wonderfully. To me, one of the most inspiring points in your posts were how you sometimes reveal your small lapses in your identity as a musician. Inspiring in the sense that even people who haven’t played instruments since they were six years old or haven’t received formal musical training can produce albums and play shows. And even more, audiences can enjoy them. The same way you took on astronomy AFTER graduating from a university. Most college graduates feel that they’re fates have already been sealed as soon as they receive their diplomas.
You even accuse yourself of being a culprit of “amateurism,” although you and your band have now completed recording a third album. I think one of the most beautiful and creative aspects of music is what kinds of sounds even an untrained individual can produce with any instrument. The sounds Joy Division created, for example, would have never come from the hands of a formally trained musician. Anyhow, all I meant to say is that I think sometimes “amateurism” should be embraced. I think it is often the catalyst that sparks an entirely new perspective. At the same time, “professionalism” shouldn’t be undervalued, but it reflects the skill an individual has achieved through so many years of discipline. (I agree - Marnie Stern has wild guitar hands).
I like what your band is doing, and I hope the new record has something entirely new to offer! Also, if ARS ever goes to Japan again, you should stop by and play a show in South Korea! It’s just an hour and a half a way. No one ever comes out here because everyone assumes Japan is so much more hip!

Dear enchanting, bewitching, dazzling angel singers,
Thank you three and the mixer for your wonderful and dilligent live performance in Beijing, especially Annie, whose foot was injured but who didn’t give up amusing us with her improvised cane dance.
Thank you for the music and the vacant and pensive musing you bring to me, though I admit I kind of hate it when I find I can’t stop your music in my head.
I wish I could feel your presence again immediately. But for now, can you please let me know if it is possible to buy any of your CDs in Beijing?
I wish Annie got well soon and I wish you all well.
