Ms. Poindexter

Hello. My name is Heather D’Angelo. You may know me from the all-keyboard trio, Au Revoir Simone, where I act as singer, songwriter, one-handed player of keyboards and one-stick commander/programmer of drum machines (especially of the glitchy, vintage variety). When I’m not performing my various musical duties, I’m a closet scientist who is obsessed with finding life on other planets. To that ultimate end, I’m gradually laboring on an Astrophysics degree from Columbia University at the assiduous pace of one semester every two years, which incidentally, correlates with our album cycles.
Between touring with A.R.S and being the official annoying tag-along of every Columbia Astrophysics grad student, I’ve met so many fascinating people with whom I’ve enjoyed discussing one of my favorite subjects—the intersections of art and science. I’ve spoken with physicists who make electronic music in their bedrooms, and professional musicians who had studied to be physicists, and an astronomer who was once a ballerina, and so many others—and these kinds of people whose avid curiosity about the world distinguishes them from those who settle for either ‘artsy’ OR ‘brainy’ have inspired me to create this little space on the internet where I get to pick their brains about everything from the last record they bought to the goals of their thesis work, and hopefully, those conversations will amuse you as much as they do me.
Since the band is just about to start a new album cycle, I’ll soon be enjoying at least another year of seemingly limitless free-time while we drive from one country to the next. It’ll be nice to have something to do besides stare out the window and lament over the massive carbon footprint I’m making. Inevitably, I’ll end up talking about tour stuff on this blog, but I’ll try to keep it interesting and not too self-indulgent. Constructive criticism is always welcome, as are: book recommendations, interview suggestions, not-to-be-missed youtube links, and any other relevant material.
Thanks for the curious impulse in you that made you come here. Long may it live!
